my part of the split EP is finished and the whole work is sent to production...probably finished in 2 months or so, that's how long the vinyl making process will take. in the meantime I will finish my full-length album, at least I hope to do so. only bass for one track and vocals are missing, so this should not take overly long

new year has begun, so here is a quick preview of what I have planned for 2012:

maybe there is time for more, but those releases are almost finished as far as the music is concerned...so with all the other necessary things to do before production to release those works is realistic for 2012. if there is more time I will start giving "the eternal path of sorrow" a new sound, finished with bass and everything, in the current tuning too, so that it could also be played live sometimes. I will also work on preparing songs of the new releases listed above to be played live.

during the preparations to finish the new album with bass and vocals I got the opportunity to release a Split EP via Atramentum Productions from Quebec. 7" Vinyl - FINALLY!

of course I had to accept that offer since I was waiting for a chance to produce on vinyl for quite a while now. also the split partner was more than just a good argument. he has contributed a song to my compilation cd that I was organising for the last year so the chance for a split release is cool for me. I will write something new for the release so it may take a while, but the release isn't planned for this year anyway...more infos are coming when it's time!

now only bass and vocals are missing...hopefully to be recorded in november. lyrics are missing as well, so that may take some time, don't know if this will be possible before our next live show. at least the split with BUER will be finished before that, it's produced by Ashes of Paltry Souls at the moment. maybe the compilations of Winterblast Halls and Panzer Clash on which I have a song might be finished before the festival. either way, if some of those releases are finished by then you will mostl ikely find them at the tabel of Ashes of Paltry Souls and Bleichmond.

progress of the upcoming album

I'm about to finish recording of the guitars for the upcoming album "Endstation". the opening track of the album will also be on the panzer clash soundtrack which is planned to be released in december. the album will hopefully also be released in december, before my show at the triumphant return of blackness festival.

The album will include 2 longer tracks, about 17 and 20 minutes long and two shorter tracks with 5 or 6 minutes each. maybe I'll add some intro but the main part will consist of those 4 songs. guitars are only missing on one of those songs, bass is missing on 3 songs. lyrics are not written yet but I have some idea of what each song shall be about. I guess the guitars might be finished this week or next and the bass within the month. preview will be posted when there's something to show.

Volunteer (remastered)

alright, since I will take another track for the compilation cd I will just present the remastered version of "Volunteer...for Euthanasia" here:

what's new: guitars are not left/right anymore but rather one guitar on both sides and the lead guitar in the center. bass has a richer sound because I turned up the bass sounds with an equaliser. vocals have slightly more reverb and the "speaker voice" is improved. drums have more bass and the snare is louder...all in all the sound seems more natural and mature to me. check it out and compare it to the original sound if you wish.

working on another track for the upcoming album...gonna be the first real uptempo song so far. I just noticed that it's not too much of a problem on the guitar now, and it would really fit the message of the song. I think I will keep the 3rd track rather short compared to the other 2 songs just a few minutes as a linking part between the two quite long parts of the album. work on the album will take until late autumn or winter as it seems now, at least I won't try to record the fast song until I'm really able to play it without problems. in the meantime the Buer split might finally be released after a long wait and the 2nd album "Novembernebel" will be released on CD. if possible I will also produce patches with the new logo, about 15 x 8 cm big. now everything depends on time and money actually...no time, no new songs - no money, no new releases and stuff...so I hope that I can spare enough time to practise the songs and as for the releases...well, we will see...

this is the cover artwork for the next release. I have been working on completely new songs, meaning that the stuff I had talked about previously is again postponed...I just wanted to create completely new tracks, the old ones won't run away anyway. I'm still working on the song for the upcoming release, one song is finished as far as music is concerned and one song still needs a second guitar and bass and both songs lack vocals and even lyrics have to be written yet. I'm inclined to put only those two songs on the release, because they are really long and the album will still have a reasonable length with only those tracks. nevertheless I will most likely record some intro or interlude in the vein of previous ambient or instrumental tracks and probably some short uptempo track to add some aspect to the music that is actually important to me but had no space in the project until now (most of all because I wasn't able to play faster on the guitar). tracklist will follow when the titles have been fixed. expect this to come this year, but not too early...missing lyrics mean that I have to wait until I get some inspiration and i have no idea if that is before everything else is finished or far later. I'd go for a release in autumn/winter though.

again news...I will contribute a song to a compilation cd, which will probably be released in autumn this year. I have considered putting a song on the cd which everyone already knows and which got positive feedback so far, but now I've decided to put a remastered song of Denied Sanctuary on it. I wasn not entirely satisfied with the drum sound on the latest album, so I take song of that release and try to work on it again to get a more balanced sound, one that fits the chosen song better. there will be an update on that issue when the compilation is about to be released.

alright here comes another track...trying to get a good mixture between raw sound and better guitar work compared to the previous albums. I'm currently working on a track with traditional instrumentation - guitars, bass, drums - which will sound somewhat different from the other songs...should be continued that way until the release is finished. then in summer I will try to record the album that was actually planned for this year.

just a few notes on what is planned for this year...

currently working on some raw stuff, guitar dominated minimalistic ambient with raw black metal tracks inbetween. would be fine on tape or vinyl cause it's recorded all in one track wich I would have to cut into pieces for a CD release...well, first of all it has to be finished, worrying about release format comes later

then there is this idea of doing something with the standalone songs, that do not fit to any concept I have made up for an album. there are some songs already recorded and one longer track that only needs bass and vocals and that also fits into the category "not for any album I have planned" ... songs for a split? but with whom? actually no idea, so this option is probably not the best choice anyway. an EP? well, who the fuck needs an EP when there's so much space on a CD? other format...vinyl is just to hard to get that calculating with it makes any sense. first of all finish the long track...nothing to do before that really

the only thing that was really planned for this year is the recording of the full-length album I have been working on since the recording of denied sanctuary x last summer...title will be "chapter I: the age of legend" and will be the first album to really tell the story that I have been preparing with the latest release. songs are finished, lyrics are not. practising since I've strated playing the guitar...hope to be able to record in summer. I don't care about the release, as there are still other works not released yet such as the Buer split and the 2nd album on CD...hope to get this done in 2011

ok, here is a new song...it's actually a cover song, but I have modified the song and added some parts to the original melody and structure. that is because it's not a metal song in the original and also quite old so there were completely different instruments I had to replace with my own stuff. however, check this out if you like...

Not much left to be done, then the new album will be produced! Production will take about 2 weeks or so, and therefore I guess that it will be finished in March. There may be some more unexpected delays, but at the moment there are apparently no further problems.

I'm still practising for the new album, that may take a while...I will probably not try to play one of those songs live in Summer, that's still too risky. I will most likely go for some new stuff too, but a song that is not as complex but has more power for a live show, something you can remember after you have heard it once. maybe this is a better option, I have to decide that soon.

drums for 3 songs of the new album finished. the untitled song is missing because I dont want to record drums as "untitled" now, this can wait until I can name the project and all the files correctly. now I'm waiting for some inspiration because I need to write lyrics for the whole album...not that easy because I have noconcept yet. maybe I have an idea while writing bass for the songs or while practising or recording guitars. there's actually enough time since the split tapes with Norther Hate took long to arrive from Canada, and the latest album is still not produced because I'm waiting for the cover (yeah, still waiting, although it is obviously finished by now). recording might take some time too, probably until summer...and then there's some artwork to do and all that stuff. I will most likely release the new work this year but I don't know exactly when this will be possible. maybe I will record some stuff that is not for the next album inbetween. depends on what is easier at the moment...

concept

in my first blog entry I believed the following statement to be true:

"...the first set of songs are finished by now and will be recorded as soon as possible, meaning when I am able to play them. these tracks are:
1. Volunteer...(for Euthanasia)
2. Across the Plains of D'ara-Khun
3. Mourning the Fallen
4. Return to Na'Thaar Keep
5. The Horizon of my Dreams..."

well, obviously none of those songs have been part of the first album, because they were far to hard for my guitar skills back then. in fact I have trouble in playing "Return..." even today, so this is something I need to practise on. Volunteer and Horizon have been recorded for the 4th full length album, and are now indeed part of the "story", which I did not think of in 2008. the lyrics had not been written then, so it's kind of obvious why the songs are now related to the plot which many GoG songs belong to. to push that concept even further I have decided to dedicate another album to that story and add some more little scenes to it. as I see it, the "story" is at the moment nothing with a chronological order, but rather different scenes that somehow fit together but parts are still missing. with the next album I will try to give the plot a little bit more structure and also a chronological order which I try to represent by different stlyes in my music.

I have thought about what I will record next and I have selected some songs for the next part which will most likely be:
- Return to Na'Thaar Keep
- Across the Plains of D'ara Khun
- Winter of Melancholy
- a song which is by now only named Nr.8
- an untitled intro

except Nr.8 and the intro, the songs had been written in 2008, therefore representing what I wanted Garden of Grief to sound like in the very beginning. back then I didn't know how to play guitar, so my songwriting was based on how it sounds rather than thinking about how to actually play it. as a matter of fact there are some chords and whole riffs that are still very hard for me to play, because I didn't care if the the song would break anyone's fingers...it doesnt sound experimental or something, it's just sometimes riddiculous how you have to switch between chords and such.

I still need to write the bass for 2 of the songs and lyrics for all of them, so I guess this will take some time for me to finish. I also have to practise playing bass for the upcoming show in summer, and I want to play this song Nr.8 there (obviously it needs a title and lyrics before that). maybe I can finish recording before the festival but I ought to focus on the songs I need for playing live...there will be enough time for recording in summer anyway with no show to practise for.

...I haven't found a method to control this blog from my google account I use for email and youtube, so this is something of a problem. I will try tokeep this updated though.

my 4th full length album is finished (since late summer 2010 actually) and the only thing I'm waiting for is the cover artwork. the production will be on pressed cds with a limitation of probably 500 copies. full booklet and stuff of course, also a little bit of colour somewhere...no label this time to tell me how the release shall be produced so it will be as professional as I want to have it.

I'm currently working on my bass skills for the upcoming show in summer and I practise the songs I want to record for the next album...this will take some time as the bass is not finished on at least have of the songs and some parts are hard to learn for me at the moment. i could have done it the easy way but this album will contain only songs that have some connection with a bigger storyline that Denied Sanctuary X was also about...so I had to pick some harder songs too. if it takes me too long I will probably record some easier tracks which do not belong to the story before that and do some split or another album, I don't know that right now...

this blog will stay something like a place for me to keep track of all the events related to writing and recording songs and lyrics and stuff. the real information on releases and where and when everything is available can be found on myspace and on facebook. there are lists of the releases and merchandise as well as reviews for some of the releases...at the moment all the stuff is sold by myself, so if you want anything you will have to contact me directly.

recording! ... and other things

I have decided to start with recording now. I have already recorded the first guitar for track 2 of the album, which was quite easy because I had always played that song after the first recording for the shattered dreams album...I'd like to finish the easier parts before my holiday, so that I can concentrate on the harder stuff afterwards. Tomorrow I'll rush through the first guitar of "Volunteer", and maybe one guitar for "Into the Vale of Dreams". in August I will continue with the recording of the harder parts of the songs which would be the solo for Volunteer, all the bass lines that I have to practise then, the whole Horizon of my Dreams (about 20min in total) and some 2nd guitars for the re-recorded songs that I had not tried to record back in 2009.

lyrics are almost finished, only "The Horizon of my Dreams" is not completed yet. for the vocals I will take the time I need, with proper training before recording...I have to record the Winterblast songs too and therefore I will first practise a lot before I start any of the recording sessions. I think I can record all the songs for the new album in August and hopefully the Winterblast songs in September.

I will have to use time carefully for I also have to practise with Locus Neminis (although the next show will be in December or so) and, most important of all, start driving again after a 2 years break. after some time it really sucks being dependent on public transport and other people when going somewhere. well...much to do next month, but first of all I'll go on a vacation...

I hope that I can record all songs in a few days and then continue with mastering which will take another day or more. at the end of the month the work on this album should be done...hopefully (you never know how long the flute will take -.-)

I have just made a deal with a great artist who will create a cover artwork for one of the upcoming Garden of Grief releases. the szene should have been the cover for the Winterblast album, but after the songs and lyrics are finished the szene does not represent any event of the plot. Arcane Inferno of Devastated Dreams is a concept album telling a whole story which, though personal and ispired by real impressions, has not much to do with the szene that will be displayed in the picture. instead I have realised that the meaning of that picture is entwined with my own past and that the hidden symbols and messages in that szene will definitely be more appropriate for a Garden of Grief album.

you can (and also should) have a look at the work of my friend on his homepage.
the cover artwork will possibly be revealed when it's first of all finished, or when it is fixed wich release it it for. I'm still practising the new songs...and probably record them until the end of summer. the split with Nightforest is already finished and waiting for a label to release it! split with Buer (USA) will be worked on when he has fixed his computer problems (and I am able to play some new songs perfectly).

ok I have nearly forgotten my blogger blog because the daily news were posted on myspace and there have not been any major changes lately...

first of all the split with Nibelheim Moonlight seems to be kind of stuck...no news on that, and nothing from any label. I will probably try to release that in the future but it's not the main task at the moment.

"Novembernebel" is out now on satanica records
the release is on CD, 40min playing time + 2 bonus tracks, not included on the tape version!
the tape version is produced by Bleichmond Tonschmiede
there is a hidden track on the tape, not of Garden of Grief, but a song once recorded for my electronic black metal project Khavorahn - which never really started up to now. sad to say that I have not enough time to produce new electronic stuff for that project, it just takes too long ...and I'm currently busy with the recording of songs for Winterblast, practising new GoG songs and playing with Locus Neminis

"The Eternal Path of Sorrow" will be a split release with Nightforest
the booklet has to be finished and then we will search for a label to produce our work
total playing time will be about 60min, half an hour by each of us

"The Last Days of the Sun" is also finished - full-length album, to be released in 2010. I'm currently looking for a label to release that album...

I'm building up a live crew for shows that might be played in the future. DeathLegion has already joined and will play the guitar. I'm also looking for another guitar player, drummer and maybe someone who might change between acoustic guitars, flute and synths. I will probably play bass on stage and will do the vocals too (If I can handle both).

ok there was a long time of producing new music, so here's the news:

first of all there will be a dsbm compilation by Bleichmond Tonschmiede containing one song of Garden of Grief. this will be released in spring 2010.

next there will be a new release on tape, also to be released by Bleichmond Tonschmiede. It has the title "Novembernebel" will contain 5 tracks with a total playing time of about 40min. release date probablay winter/spring 2010

furthermore garden of Grief will do a split release on vinyl together with Nibelheim Moonlight from spain. I have yet to record the songs for this release, so the release date is not known.

next full-length album of Garden of Grief will be entitled "The Last Days of the Sun". total playing time about 60min, 5 tracks, to be released on CD. I'm currently looking for a label to release this album - one song is still without vocals (which I have to record soon).

the first album "Of Shattered Dreams..." will be sold by INFERNAL WAR magazine starting in january 2010. orders can be sent to me too, especially in austria it would be better for the price of postage is less than if it were sent from switzerland. Garden of Grief is still without a label, but Infernal War helps me to reach fans in other countries easier...

well, I have not posted any news for some time - because there actually were none. now I'm about to finish the lyrics for the last song for the 2nd release "The Last Days of the Sun" which will problably be ready early in 2010 depending on some things such as the decision to produce it myself again or to look for a label, the time it takes to get the booklet finished, getting the new logo ready and maybe producing some shirts or stuff...I'd better get everything in order before releasing the next album.

as I have said, the recording of the next album is nearly finished, so at the moment I'm working on new stuff again - songs for a possible 3rd release maybe later in 2010, possible splits with other bands and so on...the overall sound of GoG has already changed from the dark dry underproduced sound of the first album to a more natural guitar sound on the second album and will be developed to a more sophisticated darker sound in the future - thats what I'm currently working on. for future recordings I'll be switching between D# and A# tuning, which, in combination with major differences concerning effects and equalisation, provides a rather raw "typical" black metal sound and a wierd powerful sound. these differences lead to differences in composition, meaning that the overall style will change according to which sound I use for the songs. I'm looking forward to the writing process in the near future.

today I have finished the work on my latest song called "The Eternal Path of Sorrow". The lyrics are still missing, but I am currently working on that. I have uploaded the song without vocals here:

as you will notice, the soud of my new amp is extremely different...I didn't add any effects after recording and still it sounds as I think it should. This makes recording a lot easier for me and therefore I think I will be able to record my songs faster than before!

fortunately I was able to get a new amp, small but enough for my purpose. I have now finished a new song - yet untitled and without lyrics - and finished the recording of drums. the track is now about 22min long which means that recording the guitars could take some time. I will probably start recording the first guitar tomorrow and try to get as far as possible without making any mistakes I can't deal with when mastering the song later. when I have finished the work on this track I will have to decide what to do with it. either it will be put on the next album, replacing another shorter track (which would make the whole album complete), or I could also try to find some band to release a split with and put either that track on it or - in case of using it for the next album - the shorter one that I could replace with this long song. hard to describe because I have not been able to think of some titles for the last 2 or 3 songs that I had made...damn it, just too much music and no lyrics in my mind at the moment...

...I have recently noticed, that my amp - which I got together with my guitar from an aquaintance of mine - is in fact made for bass and not for guitar xDDD I would have never thought of that but now when you are aware of this fact, some previous difficulties in getting a sound without such dominant bass in it could have found their explanation...however, I will certainly keep this one for the really nice dry and powerful sound it produces. but in addition to that I will look for some real guitar amp this week because the inability to get some reverb or delay before recording has definitely pissed me off every once in a while. how these changes will have an effect on the upcoming recording process I don't know yet. I have thought of recording with a split-up cable, playing simultaneously with 2 amps, to get 2 identical guitar tracks which just have different sounds...but first of all I need to get some new stuff, technical aspects will be dealt with later

after managing some major problems with the sound of the second guitar the new song is eventually finished. yet there are lyrics and title missing...I shall put my mind on that task soon. I'm a bit concerned about the fact that I don't even have the slightest idea of what the lyrics could be about or how to name that track. I will listen to it some times and hope that I find words for the atmosphere created by the music...

today I've started recording another track for the next album. there is still no title as well as there are no lyrics for that song but the recording of the guitars should be finished by tomorrow evening. maybe I try some synths too, but I think the song would also be good enough without. just a difference in style after all - I shall decide that when the vocals are finally done...i should probably go to bed now (after messing around with the winterblast homepage - took me some time to make it actually work the way I wanted it to) in order to have a chance of waking up near midday or so...I bid you all good night, hails!

a day like many others, yet different - a weird sense of perfection finally establishes itsself within the dephts of my mind...still there is a shadow of doubt constantly nagging at the border of the conscious mind, a constant fear of nameless tragedies that might come and go, leaving the world behind shattered and broken, all dreams burnt to the ground. there is no way to escape the future other than waiting for all answers, manipulating the course of events as best as you are able to. I think I will problably go to bed soon - no sense in pondering all night long for there's a new day on the rise, new tasks and wonders, adventures and risks. after all I wonder how things were if everything was as it should be. no more hope that it can get any better then? or would it just be a state of mind where you say well that could last forever and be happy with that? In fact I tend to believe that it's more the second choice after all yet I can't imagine where all the inspiration would come from if not from even the least suffering...in times of utter happyness I can always feel most ideas drained from me...however, it's best to always have a plan but never rely on it. according to that I'm well prepared for anything that might happen within the next few days, maybe weeks. with Blutklinge's "Ghost II" my playlist for today comes to an end and in a few minutes time I will then really go to bed, looking forward to the upcoming events, hoping for a twist in fate without losing my inspiration for further lyrical pleasures. in the end it will have to be that way that you can still feel the gloom of the past when necessary for creating the atmosphere needed for my songs in the future. after all the foreordained path leads out of the darkness, probably not into the light, at least not in what most people would say that "light" has to be like. after all the person will remain unchanged to the eye yet the state of mind of the subject is a different one. after all there is still a perfect life in this world of despair...a new era begins

I'm currently on vacation in france and have nothing with me I could probably use for making music except a flute, ocarina and my laptop. so given to these limitations I have recorded two new songs. one will be the title track of the 2nd album, and the other one will also be part of that one, but also prepared the way for a new idea...the experimental style of that song actually fits in the concept of the last days of the sun album, yet, if I kept on making such stuff (which is likely for I am inclined to produce more fine songs like that one) the overall concept of GoG would not permit much more of this style to be released on future albums. after all GoG should still be depressive black metal, progressive if I am able to learn the songs I wanted to record for this project when i first had the idea, and raw and atmospheric until I can play them myself. well actually it will still be atmospheric then, and the sound will still be recogniseable as homerecordingfor sure, I'm just talking about my guitar playing skills...

so with this in mind I will do it as it was with Winterblast and GoG when there is one idea too much for a single project...I make two out of one!

in order to keep the style of GoG as depressive bm, I have to put the songs with this other, different style into a new project. as if I had wanted to prove the truth of a sterotype the idea for this all sprang to my mind when walking in the bois d'amour, a small glade not far away from here...neither grim nor cold it was there, it was just the time not doing anything else but walking that gave the impulse^^ my new project will be named "Kahvorahn" and I would probably call the overall style electronic black metal if you like. at least its based mainly on synths and percussion, drums and vocals. I won't use guitars, or at least I won't use them often, so the sound will be somehow synthetic, yet with an aggressive edge to it. When I accidentially hear some techno music oder something the like I always have the urge to remove that awful synth beat and lay some doublebass and blasts under the whole keyboard stuff and add some shirieking vocals after that. in fact I think if you did that to all music of that kind, then you could actually listen to most of it. it's indeed not far from symphonic black metal what I will create...it's just that I won't make black metal with classic instruments and then add synths to make it sound more epic but instead I make a song which you could listen to as it is then (if you are into dark electronic music), and then add the drums and vocals to make it sound more black metal. you will hear of that soon...

recording goes on, and the next album is coming soon.
"The last Days of the Sun" will contain at least two songs different in style from what can be heard on the first release. I think I will be able to finish the work on this album until autumn and start to work on a third album for 2009 afterwards.

there is also the idea for a split with lunar mystique, yet there has to be some new records which I will participate in on the drums once again. when this will take place is not fixed yet.

wow...again it's deep in the night and I'm wide awake, at least I didn't recognize that time was passing by that fast this evening...first I had been occupied with cutting and mixing the 2nd guitar recorded today, then I had been busy listening to the outcome of the last 2 days work, and finally I had spotted some part needing additional mastering. Inbetween establishing and keeping up some social contacts via the internet, had taken that much time that finally this site of mine got again too little attention. well now I have already started writing yet don't quite know what I wanted to say...indeed I had no major reason to start writing anyway. as well as there is no major reason to do many other things which are done despite of the fact that they are lacking a reason. I notice that finally the incense stick has burned down completely, leaving a unnoticable smoke only to be recognized when someone would enter the room from the fresh air on the other side of the door. Abyssic Hate sounds out of my headphones completing the laid-back atmosphere and a glance at my mobile phone assures me of the fact that none has showed interest in my presence lately - a fact both reassuring and distractive. distractive because my mind drifts away as soon as I start thinking about whom I would have expected to do so at nearly 5 am on a night between thursday and friday...who the fuck should actually have called me or wrote a message to me in the last hours? I find myself thinking about whose message I probably had wanted to see, yet dismissing the idea before it can drive me in some sort of useless depression commonly resulting out of silly "could be", "should be", "will be" ideas at 5:00 in the morning. I'm reading again what I have already written by now, not sure if it was better to just stop it and get some sleep at last, or continuing writing until I come to a conclusion about whatever...I wonder if it is fatigue that's overwhelming me or some unconcious fear of what any "conclusion" might be about or look like, but I'm more inclined to go to bed instead of proceeding the whole thinkery. highly emotional brain masturbation you could call it...or just the daily madness inflicted on us, the thinking about possibilities and plans, making new plans which will probably be thrown away soon afterwards, dismissing old plans and concepts and stuff like that. it will be a fine day tomorrow...or today, depending on how you see it. to me it's always tomorrow when I go to bed inbetween. that takes away the recognition of the fact that you sleep half of the next day and it lets you keep the illusion of having a regular succession of being awake and sleeping. tomorrow is the right time. there is a text left to be written...

Into the Vale of Dreams will be the 3rd song for this release, part II will come soon afterwards. At the moment I have little time to proceed in recording, at least there is no time at all to start one of the really long songs I had planned for my first full lenght album...

I actually think that I could make the flute a somewhat constant part of garden of grief. by now it has proved to be a nice addition to the atmosphere so it will appear on some further records for sure. enjoy listening and don't kill yourselves before you have bought a cd, a shirt and in addition to that have at least 10 other people told to do so ;)

finally...neither planned nor professional, but indeed a recording...I had been waiting for some inspiration for quite a long time, never being able to get into the right mood for making authentic lyrics or music for garden of grief but today I just took the guitar and started recording about 2 hours and here it is, the first demo of garden of grief:

after some time organizing and writing music as well as lyrics for my band winterblast, I have already a few ideas which do not fit in the concept of the band. either because of the instruments used or just according to the overall style. as I am the vocalist on stage with winterblast I would also prefer playing no songs with my band where there are minutes of no singing at all in them. after all I have chosen to put all those ideas in another project: Garden of Grief

first of all I improve my playing the guitar in order to manage the recording of some songs without major help from others. I will be responsible for all vocals, drums and synths and some parts of the guitars - there will be someone to play the bass, as well as some guest musicians for occasional live shows that might be coming up in the future.

but what is Garden of Grief all about? technically speaking the songs are all depressive suicidal black metal in some way, yet with a progressive edge. I have not yet decided about how to sing on these tracks but it will definitely be somewhat different from my screaming in the band. the first set of songs are finished by now and will be recorded as soon as possible, meaning when I am able to play them. these tracks are:
    1. Volunteer...(for Euthanasia)
    2. Across the Plains of D'ara-Khun
    3. Mourning the Fallen
    4. Return to Na'Thaar Keep
    5. The Horizon of my Dreams
tracks 1 and 5 won't be part of any story, but 2-3 refer to the upcoming winterblast album "arcane inferno". they are set a long time after the plot of the album, having a darker atmosphere than arcane inferno by far. although these songs are related to a big story, the most important aspect is still the emotional crisis, not the plot itsself. Garden of Grief is about the meaning of life and death in different situations, the worth of those two entities, ways to escape and reasons for not doing such. It's about dead ends in life, also from a 3rd person's point of view (as it is in the 1st track "Volunteer...") which is a strange contrast to the firsthand expieriences of depression that might come up in other songs sometimes. with Garden of Grief I will definitely try to advance futher in that topic first introduced in the songs of "arcane inferno". the power out of negativity is an idea that evolved over the last 2 years, being the product of some nights' research within the depths of my mind combined with the common madness inflicted on us by life itsself. the more aggressive atmosphere of Winterblast won't allow me to concentrate on the negative emotional part of this idea, but that is exactly the gap that Garden of Grief is supposed to fill. it is the epic vision of the void within ourselves when lost in despair yet also a strange delight resulting out of that. Winterblast represents the power resulting out of the acceptance and enjoyment of this void...I personally think that this was the shortest explanation of the meaning of my two projects without a major lack of accuracy that I'm able to give at the moment.

there are still some lyrics to be finished...by now I can't tell much about intentions behind the songs or something. in the following I would rather post whenever there are some news according the overall progress of Garden of Grief.
